The Cyclones wrap up their fall season, tying for ninth in the Stanford Intercollegiate in Palo Alto, California.
Iowa State played on a talented course over the weekend at Stanford Golf Course. The Cyclones held their own on the battlefield, facing 15 top-25 ranked teams out of the 19 in the tournament.
While tying for ninth with No. 6 Texas, the Cyclones finished ahead of three other ranked teams: No. 11 Northwestern, No. 12 Oklahoma State and No. 23 Tennessee.
The top placing Cyclone was senior Pammy Chookaew, tying for 25th, shooting a five over in her final round, but also grabbed three birdies and ended with an even par.
Chookaew was in fourth place in the first two rounds of the tournament, but struggled Sunday, finishing with an even par, dropping her down 21 places to land her at a 25th-place finish.
Nichakorn Pinprayoon finished her tournament tying for 37th and with a total score of four over, she also snagged three birdies.
Sophomore Alexandra Vidal placed in a tie for 46th, totaling her final score to plus five over par. Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn tallied a seven-over score, setting her in a tie for 53rd. Isabella Yan also tied for 53rd with a seven over par; these two were the lowest placing Cyclones of the tournament.
The Cyclones finished with 852 (+11) over par after three rounds, shooting eight over in their final round.
Their best round was their second, where Chookaew finished two under par, Pinprayoon shot Iowa State’s first eagle of the year and finished the second round even. Yan also finished even in the second round, rounding out an amazing second set for the Cyclones.
Iowa State struggled in the first and third rounds, finishing plus five above par in each. But its second round helped them keep the team’s ninth-place spot.
Iowa State is closing out its fall season with a ninth-place finish. The Cyclones have shown much success this season with their team and look forward to continuing this hard work and success for the spring season, with their sights set on the Big 12 championship.
This is the Cyclones’ last fall tournament this season and they finished the season placing top nine for all tournaments participated in.
Stanford took home the gold for the Stanford Intercollegiate as a team, shooting 35-under. Megha Ganne from Stanford took the gold individually with a three-round total of 10-under.
Iowa State will start its spring season Feb. 1 at the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
