Former Iowa State wrestling coach Mike Zadick releases statement

After Mike Zadick’s dismissal last week from the Iowa State wrestling program, Zadick has released a statement of his own.
The Des Moines Register received a press release from Zadick on Monday.
“In light of the press circulated by ISU and Coach Dresser, and the speculation surrounding the same, I feel compelled to respond,” Zadick said in the statement. “First and foremost, to the remaining ISU staff, athletes and their families, I will dearly miss the relationships we formed and the confidence you placed in me and my plan for the program’s success.
“There remains a firm foundation of staff, athletes, and coaches and I wish them nothing but the greatest success.”
In Iowa State and head coach Kevin Dresser’s release on Friday, the reasoning behind the dismissal was due to differences in opinion.
Zadick and Dresser have been tied to one another for some time, with the pair coaching together at Virginia Tech before arriving in Ames.
According to the Des Moines Register, Zadick had the option to resign or be dismissed. Ultimately, Zadick went the route of dismissal.
“Had I accepted ISU’s offer to resign, I would be sending a message to the athletes that I coached contrary to the character traits that I endeavored to instill in them,” Zadick said in the release.
Currently, Derek St. John and Brent Metcalf are handling Zadick’s responsibilities while Iowa State searches for a third assistant coach.
