The YMCA Cap City League competed on its first Thursday at Grand View University of the season. A handful of Cyclones were missing, but the action was still stellar with multiple games decided by single digits.

Game one: Lions Club of Iowa 118, Sparta Waste Services 110

As previously mentioned, Iowa State’s numbers were slim, but the Thursday opener featured three Cyclones.

For the Lions Club of Iowa, Tyrese Haliburton and Michael Jacobson continued their dominance.

Haliburton flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 39 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Jacobson owned the paint with 19 points and 11 rebounds while dishing out six assists.

The Cyclone duo each had three steals.

Sparta Waste Services leaned on George Conditt IV. Conditt IV had a team-high 30 points and nine rebounds, but Sparta Waste Services fell short.

Game two: Hinterland 107, Hannah Homes 102

The lone Cyclone in this game was Eric Steyer for Hinterland. The walk-on did most his damage on the glass, snaring 11 rebounds.

Steyer also added six points off a put-back, a three-pointer and a free throw.

Game three: Waukee-Clive Veterinary Clinic 111, MRG International 98

In the final game of the night, it was a former Cyclone who grabbed the spotlight. Kourtlin Jackson played for Iowa State in the 2014-15 season before transferring.

The Des Moines native dropped 28 points and nine rebounds for Waukee-Clive Vet Clinic.

For MRG International, Talen Horton-Tucker racked up 24 points on 24 shots. Horton-Tucker also had 12 rebounds and six assists.
