The Iowa State men’s golf team finished tied for 12th with a score of +10 at the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, South Carolina.
After a slow start, with a +6 finish in the first round, the Cyclones finished round two even at par, before finishing the tournament with a +4 round three.
Junior Owen Sawyer led the five-man squad and finished tied for 10th place, shooting two under par. Sawyer collected a team-high 12 birdies. The finish was his third top-10 finish of the season and sixth of his career. Sawyer also shot the third-lowest score on par 3s (-7) in the tournament
Senior Paul Beauvy was close behind Sawyer, finishing tied for 15th with a score of -1, recording nine birdies in his three rounds.
Junior Jackson McCommon tied for 61st, with a +7 score, securing his sixth career eagle in the second round and 10 total birdies.
Junior Dianchao Wu tied for 69th, with a score of +10, totaling seven birdies.
Rounding out the five-man team, senior Zach May shot a 71 in round three to finish 72nd with a +11 final. May finished in sixth on par 3s shooting even par, gathering seven birdies in the final round alone, with his last birdie being his 300th career birdie.
Playing in the individual tournament, freshman Jesse Trembath tied for 84th, carding six birdies.
No. 50 Kentucky took home the victory at -11, just one stroke over No. 62 Ohio State, despite Ohio State reaching 10 under par in round two, as well as No. 93 Minnesota starting the tournament 10 under par.
After starting -6 through two rounds, the No. 83 Iowa Hawkeyes collapsed in the third round, shooting a +17 as a team to finish behind the Cyclones.
Memphis’ Diego Do Patrocinio Lourenco, shooting -10, finished in first place at the collegiate, with two Kentucky players, Jack Schoenberger (-8, 2nd) and Cole Stockard (-5, T5th), finishing in the top five.
The Cyclones travel to Litchfield Park, Arizona, for the Bell Bank “Pay It Forward” Collegiate on March 23-24, where May and Iowa State won in 2025.
