As summer begins, Reiman Gardens is preparing for a season filled with colorful exhibits, live performances and family-friendly events. There is plenty to look forward to in the next few weeks.
From May 30 to Sept. 30, view whimsical and vibrant botanical installations by Tork Collaborative Arts with Tony Ball. Entitled “Big and Small,” this exhibit invites guests to transform their perspectives on plant life.
Coming this July, the botanical garden will be welcoming a new resident: Baby Gnome!
This new arrival is a companion to Elwood, the world’s largest concrete gnome, that has sat on Reiman’s grounds since 2010. A “Gname the Gnome” contest is in the works for Baby Gnome.
In addition to exploring the garden outdoors, visitors can now bring the fun indoors with “Adventures with Elwood the Gnome: Small Things,” written by Andrew Gogerty and illustrated by Tim Read.
This children’s book is a playful and imaginative tale set in Reiman Gardens and is now available for preorder.
There are many showcases and events coming up to look forward to within the next few weeks at Reiman Gardens.
Take some time to stop and smell the award-winning roses at the Iowa Rose Society’s Rose Show on June 13 or watch an array of performances at The Goldfinch Room Songwriter Showcase hosted by Reiman Gardens and Stephens Auditorium.
Upcoming performances for the showcase in Reiman Gardens’ Bald Cypress Allée area include folk/rock indie musician BreAnne Stone on June 2 and Casey Joe and The Foxes, a folk trio from Des Moines, June 16.
Celebrate National Pollinator Week on June 20, an event intended to spread awareness about protecting and supporting pollinators through fun and educational displays, featuring live pollinators.
To round out the month, Reiman Gardens will be hosting the Ames Garden Club Flower Show on June 27.
Stay tuned for many more events to come this summer. Event updates and information can be found on Reiman Gardens’ website or Facebook page.
