Here is a guide on things you could do in Kansas City during the Big 12 Championship:

  1. Kansas City Zoo The 202 acre sanctuary features over 1,700 animals, including sea lions, penguins, kangaroos, elephants and more. The zoo is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and until 5 p.m. on weekends.

  2. Sea Life Aquarium Open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., the Sea Life Aquarium located on Crown Center Plaza gives you a look at hundreds of different species who live under the sea.

  3. Eat at Joe’s Kansas City BBQ– Located on the Kansas side of Kansas City, the award winning BBQ restaurant has been a BBQ staple in Kansas City since the 1990s.

  4. Visit the Boulevard Brewing CompanyTake a 45 minute walking tour of the brewery, which ends with samples of the beers at the Tasting Room. All tickets are $5 and go on sale on the date of the tour. They are on a first come, first serve basis. To sample the beer you must be 21 or older.

  5. The City Market– Open 7 days a week, The City Market is the region’s largest farmers market with 600,000 daily visitors. The City Market offers a variety of fresh produce, baked goods, flowers and more. Here you can also find gift shops, restaurants and the Arabia Steamboat Museum.

  6. The Power & Light DistrictWith over 50 restaurants, shops, bars and entertainment all across eight blocks, the Power & Light District brings you a new way to experience downtown Kansas City.

  7. The Bite– This sandwich shop is located in the Historic City Market of Kansas City. The Bite features sweet, spicy and savory flavors while combining them with the owner’s Mexican heritages. The Bite also features a selection of vegetarian/vegan options.

  8. The College Basketball Experience This is not a museum but a “high energetic interactive facility” where visitors can immerse themselves in the game. From practicing your skills, to the College Basketball Hall of Fame you can see the sport in a whole new way.

  9. The Farmhouse Located in The City Market, The Farmhouse partners up with local farmers to have a seasonal, always fresh and creative menu. The Farmhouse also has a variety of vegan and vegetarian options.

  10. Tour Kauffman Stadium– You can tour the home of the Kansas City Royals for only $17. The Legends Tour is approximately 90 minutes long and includes visits to the Royals Hall of Fame, Royals Dugout, Interview Room, Press Box and the outfield plaza.

  11. Up-Down– The 21 and older arcade/bar includes 50 arcade games including classic 80’s and 90’s games, pinball machines, skee-ball machines and more for just 25 cents.

  12. Watch the Cyclones play!– The Iowa State men’s basketball team will be playing Texas on March 7 during the Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament.
