Just hours before the next Student Government president and vice president were announced, the Election Commission held a hearing Thursday evening to address violations by each slate.

The Whittington-Simms campaign, according to the commission, may have violated Memorial Union policy by handing out flyers outside of their designated table area.

The Neely-Bibiloni campaign, according to the commission, may have violated Election Code by campaigning “in or within one hundred feet of computer labs or Election Commission polling locations” on the days of voting.

After short deliberations, the Election Commission decided against fining the Whittington-Simms campaign as no officials had reached out regarding the possible violation of Memorial Union policy.

However, the Election Commission did assess a $60 fine to the Neely-Bibiloni slate.

The Neely-Bibiloni campaign asked that for future elections, the commission clarifies computer and polling locations so that slates don’t make the same mistake as they did.
