Iowa State falls to West Virginia 4-1

Cyclones warm up against the University of Ohio.

The Iowa State Cyclones were defeated by the West Virginia Mountaineers 4-1 this afternoon.

In singles action, Ekaterina Repina was the only Cyclone to get a win this afternoon playing at the No. 4 spot as she defeated Sofia Duran (WV) 6-4, 6-4.

Meanwhile in doubles, Maty Cancini and Regina Espindola started off doubles action with a 6-3 win against Mountaineers Christina Jordan and Duran. Both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pairings played hard-fought tie breaking matches, but couldn’t come out with the win. 

Singles

No. 1: Maty Cancini was defeated by Christina Jordan (WV) 3-6, 7-5, 4-6.

No. 2: Regina Espindola was defeated by Anne-Sophie Courteau (WV) 0-6, 6-3, 3-6.

No. 3: Erin Freeman was defeated by Lyn Yuen Choo (WV) 1-6, 0-6.

No. 4: Ekaterina Repina defeated Sofia Duran (WV) 6-4, 6-4.

No. 5: Margarita Timakova was defeated by Paula Goetz (WV) 1-6, 4-5, unfinished.

No. 6: Annabella Bonadonna was defeated by Giovanna Caputo (WV) 3-4, unfinished. 

Doubles:

No. 1: Cancini/Espindola defeated Jordan/Duran (WV) 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

No. 2: Bonadonna/Freeman were defeated by Goetz/Choo (WV) 6-7, 8-10.

No. 3: Repina/Timakova were defeated by Caputo/Courteau (WV) 6-7, 5-7.

Iowa State will be on a three-week home stretch and will first take on the Drake Bulldogs on Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa, at 5 p.m.
