The Iowa State women’s basketball team traveled to Norman, Oklahoma, riding a two-game winning streak. However, Oklahoma was on a streak of its own. After a 80-71 win, Oklahoma left with its streak still in tact.

The first quarter was one of haymakers. Every time the Sooners appeared to pull away, the Cyclones had an answer. Part of that was due to senior Emily Durr catching fire early and torched the basket for eight points points, three ahead of junior Bridget Carleton’s five.

Despite shooting 5-for-16 from the field, Iowa State put itself in a position to keep the game close, trailing by just four points after the first 10 minutes.

Keeping the game close, the Cyclones had an answer once again in the second quarter after the Sooners make a move to pull away. However, this time it was Carleton who added eight points, good for 13 at the half. Durr paced the Cyclones with 14. Iowa State cut the deficit to just three at half, trailing 38-35.

Oklahoma used a 14-3 run in the third quarter to pull away from the Cyclones and ultimately put the game out of reach. The Sooners’ 11-point lead at the end of the third quarter was cut to nine by the end of the game after a late push by the Cyclones.

Iowa State shot just 14-for-34 in the second half. The loss snaps Iowa State’s two-game winning streak, while Oklahoma extended its to three games and five wins its last six games.

Durr had a team-high 22 points and three assists. Vionise Pierre-Louis torched the Cyclones for 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Iowa State will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 24, against Texas at 5 p.m. The game will mark senior night as Durr and Claire Ricketts play at Hilton Coliseum for the final time.
