Coach Steve Prohm told reporters on Monday that sophomore forward Solomon Young was going to have his left knee checked out by a doctor that evening.

The news came back that Young will have surgery today on his left knee. On Young’s Snapchat story, he said he has two tears in his meniscus. An Iowa State spokesperson confirmed that Young will have surgery today.

According to the Snapchat post, Young has been playing with this issue for the past three games and has “decided it’s time to get it fixed.”

Young has played in all 26 games this season and has started each game as well. He’s averaged 7.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in 27.2 minutes per game. He also has 19 blocks and 22 steals this season.

Last season, Young got his first start on February 11, 2017, and helped Iowa State finish 10-2 en route to a Big 12 Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

This injury will bring Iowa State’s number of healthy players to nine on the roster for the rest of the season. Nick Weiler-Babb and Hans Brase are both dealing with knee injuries as well along with Donovan Jackson being home with his family after the death of his father on Saturday night.
