Cyclones fall to Coastal Carolina in shutout

The Iowa State Cyclones fell to Coastal Carolina in a 5-0 shutout in the second game of a split-game schedule today after defeating Presbyterian 10-2 earlier today.
The Cyclones fell to an early deficit and could not respond with any offense to cut the lead.
Coastal Carolina got out to a two-run lead early in the first inning, following a double play by the Cyclones infield, Timi Tooley hit a two-RBI single to left field.
Coastal Carolina then proceeded to add to its lead, scoring two more runs in the second inning with Kassidy Smith hitting a two-RBI hit down the left field line, scoring Alexis Alvino and Taylor Sweigart. This extended the lead to 4-0 in favor of Coastal Carolina.
This was the last of Brianna Weilbacher’s day, as coach Jamie Pinkerton pulled her, and had Savannah Sanders come in relief.
Coastal Carolina then scored its last run of the day when it scored in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double to right center by Samantha Sack, scoring Stavi Augur.
Sanders was later pulled, allowing Emma Hylen to come in and finish off the game.
This puts Iowa State at 2-2 for the tournament, as they head into their last game against UNC-Greensboro, tomorrow at 8:30 am.
