Cyclones tennis wins home opener

Then sophomore Regina Espindola played for Iowa State Tennis on April 23, 2017. Epindola fell to Aliona Bolsova of Oklahoma State.

The Iowa State women’s tennis team took on the Augustana Vikings for its first home match of the season this morning. Iowa State won its home opener against Augustana with a 5-2 win.

Singles 

No. 1: Regina Espindola faced off against Kornel Staniszewska (Augustana) and in the first set Staniszewska defeated Espindola 6-3. Staniszewska took the second set as well with a 6-2 victory. 

No. 2: Maty Cancini defeated Berkley Darr (Augustana) in the first set 6-3 and in the second round 6-2. 

No. 3: Annabella Bonadonna defeated Grace Goble (Augustana) in the first set winning 6-2 and in the second set winning 6-1.

No. 4: Margarita Timakova was defeated by Taylor Jackson (Augustana) losing in the first set 6-3 and in the second set 6-2.

No. 5: Karen Alvarez defeated Annika Teske (Augustana) in the first set winning 6-3 and the second set 6-2.

No. 6: Liera Bender defeated Kaitlyn Schultz (Augustana) at the number six position with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Doubles 

No. 1: Espindola/Cancini played a very tight match against Staniszewska/Darr and fell just short of a victory with Augustana defeating Iowa State 6-5.

No. 2: Ekaterina Repina/Timakova defeated Augustana’s Goble/Jackson, 6-4.

No. 3: Erin Freeman/Bonadonna dominated Teske/Schultz of Augustana with a 6-0 victory.

Iowa State will compete later again this afternoon against South Dakota at the LifeTime Fitness courts in Urbandale, Iowa.
