Former Iowa State coach Larry Eustachy faces internal investigation at Colorado State
January 31, 2018
Colorado State head coach Larry Eustachy is the subject of an internal investigation by athletic director Joe Parker, according to Kelly Lyell from the Coloradoan.
Sports writer Justin Michael published a story on his own website stating that “multiple sources close to the situation” stated that “Athletic Director Joe Parker privately conducted individual interviews with players and coaches.”
Colorado State confirmed the investigation on Wednesday and released a statement on the situation.
“We have started a climate assessment, which involves conversations with the students and staff members associated with the men’s basketball program,” Parker said according to the Coloradoan. “As always, we will not make any public comments until our process is complete and have no additional information to share at this time.”
This isn’t the first time Eustachy has been in the spotlight for investigations before, including one last spring where he was being investigated by the university for emotional abuse to his players.
Eustachy is currently in his sixth season as Colorado State’s head coach where he’s 121-73 overall during his tenure. This season, the Rams are 10-13 overall and 3-7 in the Mountain West.
Eustachy took the Iowa State job back in 1998 after Tim Floyd took the head coaching position with the Chicago Bulls. During his time with the Cyclones, he had a 101-59 record over five seasons.
His best season in Ames was the 1999-2000 season where Iowa State finished the season 32-5, while making it to the Elite Eight.
Eustachy has a contract through 2020-21 and with his job being in the hot seat currently, he will make at least one million dollars for the each season left on his contract.
