Iowa State followed up its Puerto Rico Tip-Off championship with its first home win of the season Saturday night when it knocked off Western Illinois, 70-45.

The Cyclones (4-2, 0-0 Big 12) started off slow, taking a 29-25 lead over the Leathernecks (4-1, 0-0 Summit) into the halftime break.

Freshman Lindell Wigginton started off strong for Iowa State. He hit a 3-pointer from the corner to start off the scoring and within the next two minutes, he had added a pair of assists as well.

Senior Donovan Jackson finished the half with a team-high nine points on 3-of-5 shooting, all of which were 3-pointers. Redshirt junior Nick Weiler-Babb led the team with five assists in the first half.

In the second half, Iowa State’s athleticism took over. The Cyclones got out in transition and scored some easy buckets to widen the lead.

Iowa State hit six of seven shots to take a 47-34 lead with 13:06 to play.

From there, Wigginton took over.

He finished with a career-high 21 points and hit 4-of-8 3-point attempts.

Iowa State moved to 4-2 on the year and is currently on a four-game winning streak.
