Iowa State tennis finishes first day of CSUN Fall Invitational

The first day of the CSUN Fall Invitational concluded today, and the Iowa State women’s tennis team ended with eight wins and five losses overall.

Team Recap 

Singles

No. 1 sophomore Maty Cancini (ISU)  defeats Skyla Alcon (CSUN), 6-4, 6-4.

No. 2 junior Regina Espindola (ISU) defeats Vivian Dvali (UCI), 6-4, 7-5.

No. 3 freshman Ekaterina Repina (ISU) defeats Amanda Schneider (CSLA), 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.

No. 4 Elizaveta Sokolova (CSLA) defeats junior Erin Freeman (ISU), 7-5, 3-0, retired. 

No. 5 Carlota Casasampere (LB) defeats junior Annabella Bonadonna (ISU), 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

No. 6 Tracy Van (UCR) defeats sophomore Margarita Timakova (ISU), 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.

No. 7 sophomore Karen Alvarez (ISU) defeats Clair Dean (UCI).

Doubles 

Doubles 1

First round – Repina/Timakova (ISU) defeat Nsimba/Teufl (YSU), 7-6

Championship round – Pacholski/Munoz defeats Repina/Timakova (ISU), 6-3

First round – Freeman/Bonadonna (ISU) defeats Hazell/Dvali (UCI), 6-1

Championship Round – Nuno/Portalatin (CSUF) defeats Freeman/Bonadonna (ISU), 6-4

Doubles 3

First Round – Espindola/Alvarez (ISU) defeats Hinton/Rinker (APU), 6-4

Championship Round – Espindola/Alvarez (ISU) defeats Amiri/Chen (UCI), 7-6.

The second day of the invitational will continue tomorrow at 11 a.m. with one round of doubles, followed by two rounds of singles play that will begin at noon.
