A new university ombuds officer will begin in the position on August 7. Deanna Clingan-Fischer, the state of Iowa’s long-term care ombudsman since 2011, will become the first time in its nine-year history to have the position full-time.

The ombud’s services are available to all university employees and graduate students. Services include everything from simply listening to neutral assistance in resolving workplace conflicts, according to Inside Iowa State. The ombuds office is in 37 Physics.

In her role as long-term care state ombudsman, Clingan-Fischer directed investigations of consumer complaints related to health care facilities, assisted living programs, hospital long-term care units and elder group homes, as well as complaints related to Medicaid-managed care, according to Inside Iowa State.
