Midnight Madness returns to downtown this weekend

Due to the replacement of the Sixth Street Bridge, the Midnight Madness 5K will take a different route.

This weekend is the annual Midnight Madness Run/Walk in Downtown Ames. Events begin the night of July 8.

You can register online ahead of time at amesmidnightmadness.com through noon on July 7, then during the day of the event.


Registration costs:

13 and under: $20 if running with an adult

All Other Divisions: $35 from July 4-7, plus $1.50 convenience fee for online registration

$40 day of race


Registration is open from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. the day of at City Hall’s gym at 5th Street and Clark. Participants can pick up their packets at the same location during that time.

There will also be reduced-price shoes and running items available from Fitness Sports during registration hours, free refreshments, and you can bring your old (but usable) running shoes and/or a can of food for those in need.

7 p.m…………………………………………CAPTAIN’S KID RUN

For kids age nine and under or kids at heart. FREE, just show up and run. An out-and-back course from the start line. Special Captain Midnight awards for all participants.

7:30 p.m. ……………………………………………..5K RACE & WALK

8:30 p.m. ……………………………………… 10K FEATURED RACE

8:00 p.m. to midnight ……………………POST-RACE PARTY

The Midwest’s best post-race event featuring live music, a meal and pop/beer. Your wristband gets you into the party.

10:30 p.m. …………………………………….. AWARDS CEREMONY
