1. Morris selected by Denver Nuggets in NBA Draft– Monte Morris, former ISU basketball player, was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the second round and was the No. 51 overall pick. Morris will play in the NBA summer league in Las Vegas before heading off to Denver. Deonte Burton, Matt Thomas and Naz Mitrou-Long, also former ISU basketball players, were not drafted but were signed to play on NBA summer leagues.
2. Lawsuit claims Iowa State greek community targeted sexual assault survivor– A lawsuit has been filed claiming the greek community targeted a sexual assault survivor. The lawsuit claims the now-former student was referred to as “the girl that got raped” by students in the greek community. The fraternity being blamed for these actions was not named but the Des Moines Register points out that Sigma Alpha Epsilon was closed in August 2015 which matches the date of the reported assault stated in the case.
3. Cap City League continues– The YMCA Capital City League continued in Des Moines where the newer, younger Iowa State basketball players got to showcase their skills. Terrence Lewis and Solomon Young, as well as Marial Shayok and Cameron Lard seemed to thrive together as duos. Donovan Jackson continued his reign with 24 points in the second game. New recruit Michael Jacobson also made an appearance again at last week’s games.
4. Funding page started for student involved in boating accident– A Gofundme page was started for an Iowa State engineering student who recently died in a boating accident. Jesse Blakely was reported missing on May 31 and was later found dead by a Morgan County resident. It was said by a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer that Blakely had fallen off his boat after hitting a wake. Blakely’s family would like to raise $10,000.
5. Breaking down the Iowa State football team: Running Backs– Sports editor Aaron Marner continued his series with a break down of this year’s running backs. Marner talks Mike Warren and David Montgomery’s previous season and how they will end up this season. He explains that the team doesn’t have a lot of experience following those two players.
