Living a healthy lifestyle on a college campus
March 1, 2017
Running from class to class, meeting to meeting and still finding time to get homework done can make it hard to catch some sleep, let alone hit the gym. Studies show that exercise releases endorphins that cause happiness, leading to stress relief and psychological well-being.
1. Check the calendar
The day of a college student is jam packed, but take a closer look. While the hour or two free in the afternoon is ideal for a quick nap or a trip to Starbucks or Caribou, it can also be ideal for a quick workout. It’s all about making time for exercise and changing the mindset from “I should” to “I will.”
2. Moderation
Eating healthy does not mean cutting out everything that tastes good and replacing it with everything that is green; it means enjoying the things that taste good on a less frequent basis. Treat yourself to ice cream or a cookie at Seasons once or twice a week instead of every day; swap a slice of pizza for a spinach wrap. The little things add up.
3. Find a buddy
While you might be inspired to change the way you live, that doesn’t always mean you’ll have the motivation to get up and go to the gym. Having someone to make those changes along with you will keep you accountable and make it a lot more fun to hit the gym or make a salad.
