KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The Cyclones are Big 12 Tournament champions once again.

After falling in the first round in 2016, the Cyclones (23-10, 12-6 Big 12) beat West Virginia (26-8, 12-6 Big 12) 80-74 Saturday night at the Sprint Center to win their third Big 12 Championship in four years.

The Cyclones got contributions from all across the lineup in the first half. They out-scored the Mountaineers in bench points 18-5 thanks to stellar offensive performances from Nick Weiler-Babb and Darrell Bowie.

Bowie put up 10 points while Weiler-Babb had five. Donovan Jackson had three to round to the bench scoring.

While West Virginia jumped to a 12-4 lead early on, the Cyclones battled back, going on a 12-4 run to tie the game at 16. Point guard Monté Morris took control the game as the half wound down, putting up seven straight points to close out the period. Iowa State went into the half up 35-29.

The Cyclones continued their strong finish to the first half into the second half, extending their lead to double digits.

The Mountaineers changed defenses to a 1-3-1 zone, and it was effective, but only for a short amount of time. Iowa State found its groove again and led 65-55 with 7:31 to play.

The Mountaineers started to creep back and pulled within five with just over five minutes left to play. But the Cyclones responded and kept the Mountaineers away to win the Big 12 tournament title.
