Here are some of the big news stories that you may have missed over the weekend:

Friday – 3/24

  • Former UNI president to be interim president of ISU – Benjamin Allen, former UNI president, will be appointed as the ISU interim president on Monday by the Board of Regents. Allen will serve as the president effective May 9, as Steven Leath, current ISU president, leaves for Auburn University.
  • Steve Prohm receives contract extension and pay raise – Steve Prohm, men’s basketball coach, received a contract extension and pay raise after his team’s appearance in the Big 12 Tournament. Prohm’s contract was extended to 2022, and he received a pay raise to $2 million.
  • Cyclone softball drops home opener – The Cyclone women dropped their first home game of the season to Texas Tech. The Red Raiders got off to a strong start and kept the Cyclones from making the comeback. The game ultimately ended in the fifth inning after Texas Tech won by a mercy rule.

Saturday – 3/25

  • Fashion Show judges meet public in Ames – The 2017 Fashion Show that takes places at ISU is right around the corner, and the judges for the event met the public for the first time in Ames this weekend. There was a Meet the Judges event that took place where the judges were able to speak and mingle with attendees. The judges are Tina Wagner, Sarah Clapper, James K. Ryan and Maranda Nichols Persico, all Iowa State alumni.
  • Black Lives Matter march takes place – The local Black Lives Matter movement held its first march in Ames. About a hundred students gathered near downtown and marched in unity in order to share their feelings about discrimination. 
  • More than 800 people take part in Reggie’s Sleepout – Saturday was the first night that Reggie’s Sleepout had taken places in Ames. Jack Trice was soaked, and the temperature was around 40 degrees at the time of check-in. People created their own sleeping spaces with boxes and tents and bared the weather to support a good cause.
