Softball team splits second day of tournament

The Iowa State softball team split its second day of play at the St. George Red Desert Classic, held in St. George, Utah.

The Cyclones (8-10) fell to Nevada (11-6) in their first game of the day with a final score of 1-9. Iowa State attempted to beat the Wolf Pack, with a homerun earned by Kristen Caudle. This was the outfielder’s first homerun of the year. However, they ultimately lost the game.

The second game of the day was tied through the last inning when they played Utah State (11-4). The score was tied 1-1 until the bottom of the seventh inning, when they went into extra innings. The Cyclones gained one run in the eighth inning, advancing the score to 2-1.

The Cyclones beat Utah State overall, with a score of 2-1. Rachel Hartman scored the final run, beating the Aggies.

Iowa State will play its final game of the Red Desert Classic on Sunday. They play Utah Valley at 1:30 p.m. to finish out their weekend.
