Finding out you have test coming up much sooner than you anticipated can be stressful. This is a list of 10 tips when cramming for a test in 48 hours.

  • Sleep early every night: Sleeping early makes sure that you are well rested, which can reduce stress. Don’t set an alarm; instead, let yourself wake up naturally. Be sure not to oversleep though, or you will become groggy. To help aid sleep, stay off all electronics for about one hour before bed. Reading a book is a great way to help your brain relax before sleep.
  • Eat healthy: Eat regular meals and get plenty of fruit. Along with eating healthy, drinking plenty of water is also important. Eating and drinking well will help you be healthy and feel great. It will also give you more energy for studying.
  • Get some light exercise in between studying: Avoid any physical activity too exhausting or demanding. Try walking or light jogging. Sports or exercises too physically demanding will take away energy needed for studying.
  • Prepare and get everything ready for studying: Print out any and all study guides provided in class. If there are no study guides provided, try making one from scratch. Reviewing old quizzes and classwork will also be helpful. It will point out any weak spots and areas that should be focused more on. Create a timetable of work to be done and get all materials organized beforehand.
  • Read and annotate the chapters in the textbook: Make notes of the readings and highlight focus points. Mark down the sections that you struggle with the most.
  • Take a practice exam: If a practice exam isn’t provided, try making your own. Mark down the questions you get wrong or were unsure of. Make sure to focus on questions that you got wrong.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help: Talk to a friend in the same class and check how they are studying or if they have any suggestions. Find a study partner; maybe someone else needs help studying too. It doesn’t hurt to have someone to help keep you on track studying. There is no shame in asking the teacher for help as well. They could give great tips and tricks for the upcoming exam.
  • Creating a strong study environment: If you don’t have a good environment, then it could become very hard to stay focused. Finding a place with minimal distractions is important and will help keep you focused. Don’t be afraid to try new study spots either.
  • Turn off all unnecessary electronics, especially cellphones: At the very least, turn the sound, the Wi-Fi and the data off on the phone. Make sure to let people know ahead of time so they don’t worry if you don’t answer. This tip will aid in minimizing distractions.
  • Explore new study techniques: Some new study ideas could be flash cards, mixing and matching, or memorizing tricks. Trying out new ways to study could open new ways for you to learn and maintain the information.
