What’s the history behind our new FLOTUS
February 6, 2017
While President Donald Trump has had headlines circulating around him for the past year, his wife Melania still remains a mystery. Between a modeling career, scandals entering the campaign trail and a lavish wedding, it’s time to get to know the new FLOTUS.
DOB: April 26, 1970
Birthplace: Novo Mesto, Slovenia
Started at University of Ljubljana before dropping out and pursuing a modeling career.
Worked in Europe until 1996 when she made the move to New York City and began making covers of big name magazines such as Vanity Fair, Harpers Bazaar, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and GQ.
In January 2000, she posed nude for GQ.
Melania and Donald Trump met at a fashion party in 1998. After starting a relationship, they were engaged in 2004 before getting married at a celebrity clad ceremony in Palm Beach. Notable attendees include Bill and Hillary Clinton.
Melania gave birth to the couple’s first child, Barron, in 2006.
The same year as her son’s birth, she became an official U.S. citizen.
As the campaign trail began to blaze and her husband began his journey to the White House, Melania experienced backlash on her past modeling career and the racy photos it included.
Melania also was accused of plagiarizing the speech Michelle Obama gave at the Democratic National Convention. A Trump staff writer took the blame for the controversy.
After being blasted again for photos released of Melania posing nude, the first lady delivered a speech declaring her plans to take on the fight against cyberbullying.
