With the first ISU AfterDark of the semester happening tonight, it is important to know what’s happening where if you want to make the most of your evening. Whether it’s your first time or you’ve never missed a single one, here are the top five things to know about making the most of ISU After Dark.

Know what’s happening ahead of time

Since ISU AfterDark tends to be a big deal on campus, Student Union Board usually comes out with the schedule of guests and events taking place ahead of time. Be sure to plan out the evening so you don’t end up stuck in long lines for the majority of the night and miss something really cool.

Make plans with the group

If attending the event with friends, make sure the whole group is on the same page in terms of where you’re going and when, especially if the MU is crowded. If one half of the group wants to head to the Workspace but the other half wants to wait in line for an hour for Jesse Eisenberg, come to a compromise or plan a place to meet when everyone is done.

Make time to wait in line

With big names like Jenna Marbles and Jesse Eisenberg being part of ISU AfterDark, the Great Hall tends to fill up fast for those speakers, and lines can snake all the way down to the Multicultural Center. If a speaker in the Great Hall is on your ISU AfterDark list, be sure to arrive early to secure a good spot in line. While the wait for the doors to open may be longer than desired, a decent view and spots for the whole group will make it worth the wait.

Some events have a closing time

While ISU AfterDark runs from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., some of the events close early, like CyBowl and Billiards. If certain activities are at the top of your list, make sure you hit the ones that end early first to avoid any awkwardness when that one event is closed and you’re locked out of something on your list.

Attend a new event

Are you on a first-name basis with everyone in the Workspace, or first row for speakers in the Great Hall? While it might be fun to hit your favorite activities, consider going to something new.

Go to the photo booth or have a karaoke battle with the guys down the hall. Breaking out of your AfterDark routine may result in hilarious memories, and maybe even a few new favorite events to hit for next time.
