NORML ISU can start printing t-shirts

NORML ISU, a group advocating for changes to marijuana laws, can now print the t-shirts that has brought controversy to the group, as a judge denied a motion from Iowa State.

Iowa State and the group are in the appeals process for a case where ISU denied them permission to print their shirts. The appeals process continues, even though the group can now print their shirts.

Iowa State said they were disappointed, while group members and their faculty advisor said they would start printing several designs.

City Council discusses naming policy

This weeks Ames City Council meeting focused around a park-naming policy inspired by an ISU alum who passed away.

A request was made to the city to name a skatepark after George Tsushima, but a policy stating renames must wait three years after a death made him ineligible.

Council members voted 5-1 to direct staff to incorporate changes to the naming policy, including eliminating the 3-year waiting period.

Trump calls delegate process rigged

After a slump in wins and more attention on Ted Cruz, Donald Trump and his campaign made their message for this week clear: The GOP electoral system is “rigged.”

“Our Republican system is absolutely rigged. It’s a phony deal,” he said.

Despite Trump not receiving delegates proportional to his win in some states, or not receiving delegates in the Colorado state convention, Trump still leads in the delegate race to the convention, where he needs 1,237 to win the nomination outright.

Bubu Palo is suing Iowa State and the Board of Regents

Former ISU basketball player Bubu Palo, a 2014 graduate of Iowa State, is suing Iowa State University the Board of Regents for their handling of his sexual assault case.

He accused ISU and the Regents of destroying his chances at playing professional basketball, specifically naming President Leath in the lawsuit.

“The basic premise of Mr. Palo’s lawsuit is that he would have had a more successful professional basketball career if the university had not suspended him,” said John McCarroll, executive director of university relations. “However, that is pure speculation, and it is not the job of courts to engage in speculation. We deny the allegations made in this petition.”

Kobe Bryant scores 60 in final game

In his final NBA game, Kobe Bryant went on with a big, scoring 60 points in the Lakers’ 101-96 win over the Utah Jazz.

To score his 60 points, Bryant made 22 of the 50 shots he took, including six of them from behind the three point line.

“It’s surreal,” Bryant said. “It’s almost like you’re in a fog. Everything is moving extremely slow but extremely fast. You’re trying to take it all in. You’re not quite sure where to look.”
