Cyclones finish tied for 9th after final round of SMU Invitational

Iowa State shot a final round score of 310 (+22) at the SMU Invitational in Dallas, Texas on Saturday. The Cyclones ended in nnth place with a total score of 909 (+45) and 41 strokes behind the winner Oklahoma State.

One bright spot for the Cyclones was freshman Chayanit Wangmahaporn who shot five under par on par-5’s throughout all rounds, the best of any golfer in the tournament.

Wangmahaporn was also the leading scorer for the Cyclones finishing with a tournament total of 221 (+5) and tied for 12th place on the individual leaderboard. The second leading scorer for Iowa State was sophomore Nattapan Siritrai with a score of 228 (+12) and finished in a tie for 32nd.

The top individual scorer for the tournament was Kansas senior Yupaporn Kawinpakorn who finished with a score of 210 (-6), beating second place finisher by fve strokes.

The winner of the invitational was Oklahoma State who shot a tournament total of 868 (+4), 20 strokes ahead of the second place finisher UNLV.

Iowa State now has a three week break to prepare for the Big 12 Championship in San Antonio, Texas, on April 22-24.
