Some Cyclones will have a quick turnaround for this week’s track and field meets. Iowa State will once again be splitting this week.
Some of the athletes will head west to Azusa, California, to compete in the Bryan Clay Invite. The other athletes will head to Lawrence, Kansas to compete in the Kansas Relays.
The Bryan Clay Invite starts Wednesday and will pose a challenge for the athletes who compete. The distance runners will take the spotlight for the Cyclones. Iowa State will have runners in all types of distance events, from the 10,000-meter run to the 3,000-meter steeplechase and everything in between.
The Cyclone distance runners will look to build off the great success they found last weekend in Des Moines. The Cyclones had multiple top 10 finishes in distance events last weekend.
A team to watch out for at the Bryan Clay Invite will be a familiar Big 12 foe in the BYU Cougars. The Cougar men come into this meet ranked No. 9 in the nation.
Another Big 12 foe that will compete at this meet is the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Red Raiders are always a force, with their men being ranked No. 6 and the women ranked No. 7 in the nation. They will give the Cyclones some strong competition.
The other athletes will head to the Kansas Relays and will get an extra day off as the events don’t start until Thursday. The rest of the Cyclones, minus the distance runners, will compete here and will look to carry some great momentum with them from last weekend.
Last weekend, freshman Karynne David claimed first with a PR of 55.59 in the 400-meter dash. The Cyclones also had multiple second-place finishers.
Some teams to watch out for will be the hosting Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas State, who look to give the Cyclones some tough competition.
The Bryan Clay Invite starts on Wednesday in Azusa, California, and the Kansas Relays begin Thursday in Lawrence, Kansas.
