The Iowa State men’s golf team is headed down to Tempe, Arizona to participate in the Thunderbird Invitational Tournament, April 2-3.

The Cyclones are just coming off of a tournament win with one of the best performances in school history at the Desert Shootout. The team shot a total score of 823 for the tournament, which is a school record. This score broke the old record of 837 by a total of 14 shots. Four Cyclones also carded top-15 finishes during their record-breaking performance.

Sophomore Denzel Ieremia was the leader for the Cyclones by shooting a career-best 203, which is now tied for the second best all-time 54-hole score in school history. Ieremia’s career day also put in him tying third place overall for the tournament.

Junior Ruben Sondjaja was also able to place in the top-10 at the Desert Shootout by recording a career-best 54-hole score of 205. Along with Sondjaja, junior Nick Voke also cracked into a top-10 finish. This was Voke’s 12th career top-10 finish and he currently leads the Cyclones in stroke average with a 71.46 along with being ranked 88th nationally according to Golfweek.

The Cyclones will have some tough competition at the Thunderbird Invitational, as the field is poised of three teams nationally ranked in the top-20 according to Golfweek’s latest poll. Those teams are No. 15 Arizona State, No. 19 California and No. 20 San Diego State.

Play will begin at 9:30 a.m. central time on Saturday and live scoring will be available through Golfstat.com
