The Academic Affairs Council is putting forward a motion to require new international undergraduate students to enroll in University Studies 110x.
Some of the goals of the course is to teach incoming international students about issues around adaption to U.S. culture, culture shock, basic immigration status and employment benefits.
The one-credit, 16-week course started in Fall 2015 as an experimental course, and will continue in through the spring of 2016 with the goal of becoming a permanent course for new international students.
Undergraduate international students “need an incredible amount of information to make [the] transition successful,” according to a release from the council.
The meeting takes place on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union’s Great Hall.
