March 23, 2016
The Ames Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at Kum & Go, 4506 Lincoln Way, at 2:30 a.m Wednesday.
The suspect entered the gas station and demanded money from the clerk while displaying a knife. He then left the store with an undisclosed amount of money, according to a press release from Ames Police.
The suspect is described by the clerk as a white male adult in his 20s and approximately 5 feet 8 inches with a stocky build. At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing a black ski mask, gray pants and a gray sweatshirt.
He was last seen running north of the store into a wooded area near Westbend Drive.
Officers then searched the area but were unable to obtain the suspect.
Jason Tuttle, investigations commander for Ames Police, said the police officers spotted the suspect at one point in the woods, but because of the dark conditions, lost sight of the suspect.
No one was injured during the robbery.
The incident remains under investigation by Ames and ISU Police.
Tuttle encouraged stores in the area to always be on guard and observant of people coming into the store, especially during the late night and early morning and after a robbery such as this occurs.
Ames Police is also encouraging anyone who has information concerning this incident to call 515-239-5133 or the anonymous tip line 515-239-5533.
