CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — ISU women’s basketball was able to hold off Northern Iowa’s attempts at comebacks at the McLeod Center on Wednesday night to pull out a 84-75 victory.

Iowa State came out hot to start the game, taking a 7-0 lead early in the game. The Cyclones were able to jump to a 19-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter thanks to UNI shooting 2-for-16 from the field.

But it was only a matter of time until the Panthers started to find their stroke, as they went 9-for-15 in the second quarter to come roaring back and trail the Cyclones, 36-31, to end the first half.

UNI continued to chip away at Iowa State’s lead in the second half. The Panthers took their first lead of the game late in the third quarter. The Cyclones battled back, though, and took a 58-52 lead into the fourth.

Iowa State didn’t let UNI back in the game, as the Cyclones kept pace with the Panthers’ scoring and stayed in the lead until the end of the game.

Seanna Johnson continued her hot start to the season, putting up 28 points, eight rebounds and five steals.

Iowa State will return home against Southern on Saturday after completing a five-game road stretch.
