Jon Wayne and The Pain, Mumford’s and Doctor Murdock to ring in the New Year at DG’s Tap House
December 27, 2015
Jon Wayne and The Pain, Mumford’s and Doctor Murdock will perform starting at 8 p.m. on New Years Eve at DG’s Tap House.
Tickets are available through Midwestix and are $20 at the door.
DG’s Tap House has made a tradition of having a New Year’s Eve show that has included local group Mumford’s for the past seven years, according to Mumford’s member Nate Logsdon.
Logsdon explained that the tradition began after Mumford’s performed with local band The Poison Control Center.
“Seven years ago–which is kinda crazy to me…it doesn’t seem that long–The Poison Control Center had been booked to play New Year’s Eve at DG’s Tap House and it was the first year DG’s was gonna make a big deal out of it and do a big party,” Logsdon said.
“They asked Mumford’s to open for them and then from there DG’s asked Mumford’s to play again the next year. [A]fter that it was kind of like a tradition.”
Since the original tradition started, other bands have joined Mumford’s to continue the tradition. Logsdon, who is also the manager of DG’s Tap House, explained what he looks for when booking the night of performances.
“I try to just think of what bands did really well at the club during the year, what bands are going to be a good draw or tie into that New Year’s energy,” Logsdon said.
Mumford’s will not be alone as show openers though. Local band Doctor Murdock will also be a part of the night. Logsdon explained that they have also made a tradition at performing on New Year’s at DG’s.
“I think it’s going to be their fourth New Year’s they’ve played with us. They have a tradition going with us as well, so they were kind of a lock,” Logsdon said. “I already knew I was going to ask them to play.”
Headlining this year’s show will be Jon Wayne and The Pain. Logsdon also explained the reasoning behind bringing them to this year’s show.
“They have a long history at DG’s Tap House, awesome band, incredible live show, incredible musicianship and on top of that they are a real well-loved band in the community,” Logsdon said.
Logsdon said the show will be non-stop rock and roll with a free champagne toast at midnight. Attendees can enter to win prizes, including free shows for a year and a $50 bar tab.
“It’s going to be all decorated and look beautiful and it’s just a really great party,” Logsdon said. “It’s one of my favorite shows that we do every year.”
