Cyclone Hockey falls to Robert Morris in a shootout
November 7, 2015
Following an 18-2 Saturday night win last weekend against Augustana, Cyclone Hockey didn’t quite up the scoreboard again in its next game.
The excitement level, however, was polar opposite.
The two teams went into nine rounds of a shootout before Robert Morris was able to defeat the Cyclones, 2-1.
Freshman Jon Severson got the scoring started for both teams with a goal off assists from Jake and Tony Uglem, 5:49 into the opening period. Severson was picking up right where he left off last week when he more than doubled his season-point total with nine against Augustana.
Goaltender Matt Goedeke stopped all 13 shots he faced in the first period. He continually made clutch saves throughout the game until Robert Morris’ Tyler Valentin tied the game at one 7:34 into the third period. Neither team was able to score again, and the game headed into a five minute sudden death overtime.
Nobody was able to find the net and the game went into a shootout, the second shootout the Cyclones have encountered this season.
Both teams went the first three rounds without a goal until Valentin scored for the Eagles and Michael Addison scored for the Cyclones in the fourth round.
Four more rounds went scoreless until Aaron Bladher sent a puck into the top right corner for the game winner.
The two teams resume play Saturday night at 8 p.m. in the Ames/ISU Ice Arena.
