Reggie’s Sleepout to take place Oct. 17

Drake Stadium will be overrun this weekend by people who are there to do one thing: sleep in boxes.

This year marks the tenth annual Reggie’s Sleepout, an event that raises money each year to help end youth homelessness in Iowa. This year’s event will take place at Drake Stadium beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday and continuing until 7 a.m. Sunday morning.

Attendees build a box shelter and bring it to the stadium where they sleep out over the night, playing games and enjoying festivities up until 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

Those that attend bring in donations beforehand, and this year organizers are pushing the “10 for $10” challenge which encourages every participant to ask 10 people for $10 each.

All money raised goes to Iowa Homeless Youth Shelters which is a community based program that is part of Youth and Shelter Services, Inc.
