Iowa State Women’s golf in 13th place after first round of Stanford Intercollegiate

The Iowa State women’s golf team fired a 300 in the first round of the Stanford Intercollegiate today to put themselves in 13th place.

The No. 14 Cyclones finished the first round at 16 strokes over par which has them 13 strokes back of first place, Stanford, who is at three strokes over.

The tournament hosted at Stanford University and Condoleezza Rice has nine teams from the past Golfweek Top-25 Rankings including the top four teams in the country, No. 1 USC, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Northwestern and No. 4 Arizona.

The Cyclones are again being paced by sophomore Celia Barquin who sits tied for 25th after shooting a first round one over par. Nattapan Siritrai and Parinda Phokan are also shooting at the top of the Cyclones roster with first round 75s that have them tied for 42nd.

Stanford University, which has a strong history of golf excellence especially with PGA great and alum Tiger Woods, leads the tournament with a 287 stroke total. UCLA and Washington follow close behind with scores of 289 and Georgia is right behind them with a 291.

The tournament continues tomorrow with the second round a finishes up with the third round on Tuesday.
