Sam Smith records theme song for James Bond movie ‘Spectre’

Sam Smith tweeted to his 3.5 million followers, “This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honored to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song.”

The name is Smith, Sam Smith.

English singer Sam Smith announced Sept. 8. that he has recorded the new theme song for the upcoming James Bond movie “Spectre.”

Smith tweeted to his 3.5 million followers, “This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honored to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song.” 

The singer denied recording the song for “Spectre” in July to keep the surprise a secret, saying, “People seem to think I’m doing it but I have no idea what is going on. I’m being deadly serious.”

Other famous artists who were rumored to do the “Spectre” soundtrack included Ellie Goulding, Lorde, Lana Del Rey and Ed Sheeran. 

The latest James Bond song was sung by Adele in 2012. The song received a Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media, as well as an Academy and Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.  

Smith will follow in the footsteps of renowned artists like Adele, Madonna, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow and Alicia Keys.

The singer has won numerous prestigious awards, including five Grammys for Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.

Smith is on a roll for only being in the spotlight for a short amount of time. 

Smith’s upcoming song, “Writings on the Wall,” will officially release Sept. 25 and is now available for preorder on iTunes.

The popular James Bond movie series returns to the big screen Nov. 6, 2015.
