In the mood for some live music? Whether you’re into classical, hard rock, reggae or rhythm and blues, Ames and Iowa State have you covered.

The Maintenance Shop

Nicknamed the M-Shop, the Maintenance Shop is located in the Memorial Union and offers live music right on campus. Some of the all-ages nightclub’s past performances include The Lumineers, The Civil Wars and Polica.

The venue also hosts comedy shows, open mic nights and theater performances. The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays for a place to study as well as a time to purchase tickets.

Stephens Auditorium

Along with hosting plays, musicals, theater and comedians, this on-campus auditorium offers a variety of musical talent.

Orchestras and symphonies come to perform along with well-known bands such as Little Big Town, which will be in Ames this October.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the auditorium’s north entrance ticket office.

Zeke’s

Close to campus, this live music community center offers a wide array of entertainment.

Thursdays are local mic nights, and a group from the Stonebrook Church performs a program for college students on Fridays.

Zeke’s bluestem stage focuses on folk, string bands, bluegrass, blues, funk, jazz, alt rock and occasionally EDM shows.

Iowa Music Store

A venue for all ages, the Iowa Music Store on Main Street hosts open mic nights at 7:30 p.m. Sundays, and regular live shows. No need to buy tickets beforehand because this venue has its listeners pay at the door. The venue has a store with a selection of music and merchandise from Iowa bands and artists.
