24th Street

Traffic on 24th Street will be detoured beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4. The road will reopen at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6. Eastbound traffic will detour at Van Buren Avenue and westbound traffic on 24th Street will detour at Northwestern Avenue.

According to a City of Ames press release, the detour is necessary for infrastructure improvements taking place at the intersection of 24th Street and Hoover Avenue. Work includes the replacement of storm sewer structures and piping connections to accommodate private sump discharge.

Additional infrastructure improvements will alleviate potential flooding in the construction zone during any future rain events and reduce weather-related delays, the release said.

If weather or other conditions prevent the work from being completed on the scheduled dates, motorists should be prepared for it to occur on the next days of workable conditions.

Coconino Road

According to an additional City of Ames press release Coconino Road in west Ames will also be closed at the Mortensen Road intersection beginning Monday, Aug. 3. The closure will last two to three weeks, and is required in order to continue with the Mortensen Road widening project. Access to residences along Coconino Road will be detoured through Seagrave Boulevard.

The City of Ames has contracted with Manatt’s Inc. for the widening of Mortensen Road from South Dakota Avenue to Dotson Drive. For additional
