The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the Ames area that will go in effect at 4 p.m. Wednesday and last until 7 a.m. Thursday.

Thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain are expected to develop this afternoon into the evening across much of central Iowa. Rainfall rates from the most intense storms may exceed 2 to 4 inches per hour. Rainfall amounts may exceed 3 inches with some locations receiving up to 5 inches of rain.

A flash flood watch means conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Residents are advised to monitor forecasts and be prepared to take action should a Flash Flood Warning be issued.
