Nepalese Student Organization raising relief funds

The ISU Nepalese Student Organization is raising earthquake relief funds by selling foodstuffs at the Ames Main Street Farmers’ Market beginning Saturday, May 16.

Nepal has been hit by two major earthquakes and dozens of aftershocks in the last few weeks, killing over 8,000 people and displacing hundreds of thousands more.

The Ames Main Street Farmers’ Market is held on the 300 and 400 blocks of Main Street and runs from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays during the summer.

The NSO plans to sell momos – dumplings filled with spiced ground turkey and vegetables wrapped in a wanton wrap and served with tomato sauce – and lassi – a drink made up of mango pulps, plain yogurt, milk and cardamom.

Man Basnet, NSO’s faculty adviser, said momos and lassi have been popular at the ISU International Food Fair and Veishea in years past.

The food will be prepared at Grand Avenue Baptist Church, and will be cooked at the market.

All proceeds will go to benefit the earthquake victims in Nepal.
