ISU men’s golf falls to fourth place after day two of Big 12s

With 18 holes to go at the Big 12 Championship, the ISU men’s golf team will be resigned to fight for second place.

No. 2 Texas has jumped out to a commanding lead through 54 holes at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. The Longhorns lead No. 9 Texas Tech by 20 strokes and are 31 clear of No. 42 Iowa State, which is in fourth place.

The Cyclones were in second place after two rounds, but a 17-over-par third round of 297 slid them into fourth, where they trail Texas Tech by 11 shots. On the tournament, Iowa State is 40-over-par with scores of 298, 285 and 297.

Iowa State has two golfers in the top 10, with Scott Fernandez and Nick Voke in a tie for ninth at seven-over-par. They trail leader Scottie Scheffler by 10 shots.

In round three, Fernandez posted a three-over-par 73, while Voke finished with a 74. One shot behind the ISU duo is Sam Daley, who is in a tie for 11th out of 45 golfers after a 73 in the third round.

Ruben Sondjaja slid down the leaderboard after a 77 and is tied for 32nd. In 45th is Collin Foster, who recorded a 79 in round three.

The fourth and final round will begin 8 a.m. April 29. Iowa State (+40) will begin play at 8:50 a.m. and will play alongside fifth-place Oklahoma (+43) and sixth-place Oklahoma State (+46).
