Iowa State ends regular season with a win at Hilton

The ISU gymnastics team closed their regular season with a win against Temple on March 14 at Hilton Coliseum. Iowa State recorded a final team score of 195.300, overwhelming Temple’s team score of 189.750.

The Cyclones vaulted to a score of 48.800 in the first rotation. Courtney Middlekoop led the team with a 9.800. Those following with high scores were Caitlin Brown and Haylee Young, both with a 9.775.

The bars started a little rocky for the Cyclones, but with all but one Cyclone scoring above a 9.700, the team recovered to earn a 48.975. Briana Ledesma led the team with a 9.875, with Hilary Green and Caitlin Brown not too far behind, both scoring 9.825 & 9.800 respectively.

The beam presented a challenge for Iowa State, but that did not stop them from powering their way to a score of 48.375. Caitlin Brown tied her career high with a score of 9.950. Following with a score of 9.825 was Alex Marasco and Haylee Young with a 9.800.

Iowa State concluded the meet with an all around strong performance on the floor. The team collectively earned a 49.150, with Haylee Young earning a 9.900. Right behind her was Caitlin Brown with a 9.875 and Kelsey Paz with a 9.825.

It was a successful night for the Cyclones, especially for Caitlin Brown on her senior night. Brown took home a victory on the beam and the all-around. Courtney Middlekoop was awarded the Mari Rae Sopper award for her victory on the vault, and Briana Ledesma took a win on the vault and Haylee Young took the victory for the floor competition.

The Cyclones look to carry on their success at the Big 12 Championships at 4 p.m. on March 21 in Norman, Okla.
