The Lowdown

A face-paced, high-scoring, hot-shooting first half put Iowa State out in front of Oklahoma 42-32 late in the first half. The Sooners had some hot shooting of their own on their minds.

With less than four minutes remaining in the half, Oklahoma (17-7, 8-4 Big 12) outscored Iowa State (17-6, 7-4 Big 12) 62-41 through the rest of the game to take control of second place in the Big 12 conference with a 94-83 win.

The Sooners out-shot the Cyclones 50.6 percent to 47.7 percent and only committed seven turnovers while forcing 14 Cyclone turnovers. Oklahoma, who averaged attempting nearly 19 free throws per game, only shot six the entire night but made all six.

Five OU players finished in double-figures, led by TaShawn Thomas who finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Ryan Spangler also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Iowa State was led by Dustin Hogue’s 19 points, while Jameel McKay, Naz Long and Bryce Dejean-Jones all finished in double figures. The Cyclones made 14 3-pointers in the losing effort.

The Cyclones will take on No. 21 West Virginia on Feb. 14 at Hilton Coliseum.

The Turning Point

With 3:47 left in the first half, Iowa State got a bit comfortable with a 10-point lead as Oklahoma was able to turn the Cyclones over and beat them in transition as they finished the half on a 14-4 run to tie the game at 46. The Sooners never looked back, starting the second half on a 6-0 run and using the momentum to steal the game.
