It recently came out that computer manufacturer Lenovo was pre-installing an adware program called Superfish Visual Discovery that was designed to add extra advertisements to browsers such as Chrome or Internet Explorer.

Superfish also had a backdoor weakness that could potentially allow hackers to steal sensitive data such as bank information, or simply view your browsing habits.

PC’s coming with a ton of extra “crapware” is nothing new, but this is on a whole new level of exploitation, creating unnecessary vulnerability to the users.

Since Friday, Windows Defender and McAfee have been updated to remove Superfish from user’s computers. You can also check if your computer is infected here.

Late last week, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Lenovo and Superfish, seeking damages and charging both companies with “fraudulent” business practices.
