Neill Blomkamp, director of recent sci-fi classics “District 9” and “Chappie,” has now solidified his plans with 20th Century Fox to move forward with a new addition to Ridley Scott’s “Alien” franchise.

Blomkamp has reportedly been working on concept art for his own storyline in the “Alien” universe, and even included Sigourney Weaver. Blomkamp had been teasing his ideas for some time and last week posted on his Instagram, “Um… So I think it’s officially my next film. #alien.”

It’s unknown as of right now whether the project has former star Sigourney Weaver attached to it or not, but Ridley Scott is confirmed to be producing the film and it will take place after the upcoming “Prometheus” sequel.

The franchise started as a classic and has had a spotty lifespan since it’s 1979 start, so it will be interesting to see if Blomkamp can do what Ridley Scott hopes he can and “take the franchise to the next level.”

The film has a rough tentative release date in 2017, but you can check out some of the concept art that he’s done on his Instagram at “neillblomkamp.”
