In a report issued by the Cornucopia Institute, the cover of many yogurt companies was blown as it was revealed that their yogurts were not, in fact, good for you.

It’s widely believed that consumption of yogurt is beneficial due to healthy bacterias, but this is only true for actual yogurt. Many yogurt companies have made their products decidedly unhealthy by adding in artificial colors, chemicals, preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, aspartame and tons of sugar.

Mark A. Kastel, co-director of the Cornucopia Institute, said, “In some cases, they might as well be serving their children soda pop or a candy bar with a glass of milk on the side.”

According to the report, the highest-ranking yogurt brand is Butterworks, scoring a 1670 on the yogurt scorecard. Not too far down, coming in at a score of 1275, is Iowa-native brand Kalona Supernatural.

Slightly further down the list, at 825, is the Simply Balanced brand offered through Target. Chobani comes in even later yet, at a shockingly low score of 675. Even though it boasts the title of organic, Horizon Organic yogurt only scores a 575.

Great Value scores quite low at 200, but what did you really expect from Walmart yogurt? Well, it did beat out Yoplait, which scores a pitiful 175 on the scorecard. Don’t fret, Yoplait. Dannon did worse than you, scoring a 50 and earning the spot of the worst yogurt you can put into your body.

If we didn’t cover your favorite yogurt, you can check out the list here for yourself. Please, support your local dairy and eat responsibly.
