I gotta dollar, hey, hey, hey

College, college, college. It’s fun, exciting and sometimes nauseating, and let’s be real, most of us are broke. College students are often found rooting around for deals, looking to stretch precious dollars to cover the necessities. One good place to go is your neighborhood dollar store to score some cheap stuff.

Keep in mind that not everything you procure from a dollar store is of the best brand/quality — shocker — but it’s still an option for some of your basics.

First of all, a dollar store is good for party decorations. No one likes dropping tons of cash on cardboard table decorations and balloons that are destined to be thrown out at the end of the night. Hit up the dollar store for streamers, candy, plastic plates, cups and silverware, banners and other stuff.

Cleaning supplies. Come on, guys, you’re only spending a dollar, if you’re going to the “right” dollar store. Anything from window cleaner to car interior wipes to paper towels to bleach, the dollar store has you covered.

Greeting cards are horrible to buy in stores because it seems like you spend $4 on a folded piece of paper that’s going to get tossed in the trash. They may not be the prettiest, but it’s generally accepted that most people aren’t too picky.

The same thing goes for wrapping paper, gift bags, boxes and tissue paper. The quality isn’t always there, but you save some coin and it’s still safe to assume the general population doesn’t care.

The dollar store is also a good place to go if you need school or office supplies. Paper clips, poster paper, envelopes, scissors, scotch tape, notebooks, binders, the list goes on and on.

One last group of things that can be bought at the dollar store is health and beauty items. This can include toothpaste, rubbing alcohol, hair ties, cough drops, mouthwash, cotton balls, nail polish remover, whatever. Be wary, however, and don’t go purchasing dollar makeup, soap, razors, baby products, hair color or anything like that.
