Synopsis of ISU gymnastics’ opponents for weekend meet

Iowa State will hit the road for a four-team meet on the East Coast in State College, Pa. on Feb. 28. Penn State will host the competition, welcoming Penn and Brockport State in addition to the Cyclones.

The Nittany Lions, who will be playing host for the fifth time this season, are currently ranked No. 13 in Division I gymnastics with a regional qualifying score of 196.125. They currently sit one spot ahead of Minnesota, who defeated the Cyclones at Hilton on Feb. 20.

The University of Pennsylvania, or Penn, shares its location with the historic Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, Pa. Despite residing in the same state as the host of this weekend’s competition, the Quakers of Penn still face a bus ride of just over three hours in order to reach State College.

Penn State University essentially sits in the direct middle of the 12th oldest state, whereas Penn resides in the southeast corner, near the Delaware border.

The Golden Eagles of State University of New York at Brockport will embark on a just under four-hour journey almost directly southbound to arrive at State College. Brockport, N.Y. is located on the west side of New York, near Lake Ontario and the city of Rochester.

Iowa State will, however, have the largest travel distance by a landslide. The Cyclones will have to travel nearly 900 miles to compete this weekend alongside their three competitors as they attempt to boost their regional qualifying score in order to ascend the regional rankings.

The meet is set to commence at 3 p.m. CT.
