ISU gymnastics history versus Minnesota

During the course of the past 20 years, Iowa State has adopted a tradition of squaring off against Minnesota at least twice in all but one of each regular season since 1995.

Currently, the series matchup sits in favor of the Cyclones, who have posted a record of 21-17-1 against the Golden Gophers during the past 20 seasons. This series lead is due in large part to a 10-game winning streak for the Cyclones from Feb. 23, 2002, through Jan. 13, 2007.

Iowa State has experienced most of this success against Minnesota at its beloved Hilton Coliseum. Of the team’s 21 victories against the Gophers during the past 39 matchups, 13 of them have occurred at home. In addition, the Cyclones have fallen only three times to Minnesota at home, compared to 14 times in Minneapolis or at a neutral site.

Historically on paper, Iowa State has been set up to claim victory against Minnesota as the two teams will square off Feb. 20 at Hilton. However, Minnesota has proven itself the better team during the course of this current season.

Now ranked at No. 19 in the nation, the Golden Gophers currently hold an average meet score of 195.432 for this 2015 season, compared to the Cyclones’ 194.868. Iowa State is also currently on a three-game skid in the season series.

Both programs have different factors working in their favor as matchup No. 40 between the two team approaches. Only time will tell if Minnesota will continue to narrow the series gap or if Iowa State will substantiate its success at home.
